New Down (demo u oktobru)

http://www.newdawn-game.com/

General information

Which games can the New Dawn be compared to?

Storyline and narrative bring to mind games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment. The same goes for developing a group. Titan Quest: Immortal Throne is close in appearance.

Which point of view will the game feature?

The view will be overhead isometric, but players will be able to move the camera both horizontally and vertically, to allow for wide views of the ground as well as detail.

Will the plot be linear?

The plot has been composed in a way to give the player a choice of many paths leading to a given aim. Thus the player will be able to move quite freely in the framework of the game. Moreover, players will be free to choose their style of the playing so they will not be forced to behave the way they wouldn't like. We hope it guarantees an addictive gameplay and allows to show the plot from various perspectives.

Will the game offer a multiplayer mode?

Short answer: No. The story is a centerpiece of New Dawn, so we dropped the idea of multiplayer to tell the plot the best we can. Multiplayer gameplay limits the plot, which in our opinion is hard to accept for a true role-playing gamer.

Will the New Dawn be ported to Linux or any console?

We are not going to port the game to Linux and have no plans at this moment to develop it for any console.

How will the game be rated?

It seems that the box will be labelled 16+ (according to PEGI and ELSPA), or M (according to ESRB), which means that you need to be over 16 (or 17) to play it.

Will you publish a playable demo?

We are working at full steam on the playable New Dawn demo which is scheduled for the beginning of October.

The world of the game

How big is the world of the game?

The world is divided into locations of up to 15 square km (5.8 sq mi) each. Many types of surfaces, plants and animals which are going to featured in the game require such vast areas.

How are you going to combine fantasy and the postapocalyptic vision?

The game shows quite a special world after a great disaster. Human kind declined so tragically that superstitions and new religions took over people's minds. Evolution caused different species to adapt to new conditions. Accordingly, some elements appear to resemble fantasy to a casual gamer. However, their existence is justified and well documented. The plot will explain many of the questions a player will dare to ask when playing the New Dawn.

How far has the world changed after the disaster and which generation is it?

The story takes place a few hundred years after a comet hit the Earth. Not much has left of the world as we know it - they are mostly shelters and similar structures most of which are seriously damaged and little of the past has survived, at least on the surface. People have build a completely new civilization after they came out of their shelters.

How does the world look like if plants died out and most animals are endangered?

In fact, it has happened before and every time life on the planet survived. In the New Dawn world the situation is similar. Right after the comet hit, it seemed that everything died out but some time later the flora came back to life. Along with plants there came insects and some reptiles, amphibians and mammals. With the exception of trees, plants regenerated and covered various areas, just like animals. New ecosystems have been created. A few bigger species survived with people in the shelters.

Will it be possible to visit some of the present cities?

Therefore no modern cities are present in the game. The disaster hasn't left a stone unturned and all the traces of human existence have been erased, both intellectual and technical.

Was all technology destroyed? Are there any robots? How important are they?

No, it wasn't, but all kinds of devices and gadgets are now used only by the rich and specific factions. It ended up this way basically because not many machines left and they are secretly guarded, just like the way they are used, which led many people to believe in magic in them. We will meet robots further in the game in some secret locations.

What kind of weapons can the player use?

Two kinds. Firstly, newly created weapons for melee, martial arts or hurling, and secondly, weapons from before the disaster - traditional and electromagnetic guns. Availability of the latter type of weapons and ammunition will be limited, so using just guns will not secure a success..

Will there be magic?

Short answer: No. Magic does not fit the vision of the world we created. Moreover, we try to bring in to the game ideas which would not be mere copies of other games' features. Each constituent can be explained rationally and each action has its cause and effect.

Will there be magical weapons or items?

Short answer: No. Just like magic itself, such weapons or items will not be present in the game. However, a real rare weapon could be considered a magical one by the New Dawn denizens especially if they would not know how it worked.

What means of transport, if any, will be available?

Not many people have skills to use machines because there are not many machines in the first place. After the disaster one could hardly find any working equipment. The same goes for animal powered transport as such animals did not survive.

Characters

Who is the hero?

It is Seth, a man who wakes up in a dungeon and the only tip he finds is his old diary. As time goes by the player learns more about their alter ego and eventually discovers the reason for Seth's situation. Our hero is extraordinary, charismatic but lost.

How many and which attributes can be chosen while creating a character?

When we create a character we decide about the value of specific attributes and their start-up feature. Because the plot is clearly described, the character's appearance will not be changeable by the player. What you can change though, are health, strength, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, perception, and charisma. Those attributes influence the skills and derivative coefficients. A start-up feature is a bonus given at the beginning which endues a character with a special skill.

Do characters need to rest?

Not necessarily, but if they choose to do so, they will decrease their fatigue faster.

What races will be available?

The concept of various races comes from fantasy and is what we try to avoid. Groups which share the same qualities can be divided into people, darkorgs, ghouls and giants. However, those last three groups are different from the beings we know from the traditional lore, as their ancestors were ordinary people from before the disaster, for example darkorgs are wild humanoids whose origin is unknown. Post-disaster mutation yielded various forms of life including some other unclassified humanoids.

Will looting be available?

Only useful equipment will be there to loot. Some of the items, a weapon, ammunition or garment could be of a great importance to the player.

Are there any children in the game and will they be targetable?

You will not be able to kill any but they will not be immortal either. Although they could be hurt during an accidental skirmish, aiming at them will be impossible.

Gameplay

What type of combat will the game utilize?

There are two distinct combat systems. Turn-based one is designed for tactics lovers and the real-time one will satisfy action aficionados. This way, players will play the style that appeals to them.

How many characters can join our party?

Six, including the hero. In such a vast world there will surely be many valuable characters who would love to join him, thus conscientious personal management will be required. How a party is composed influences quests and gameplay.

How the party will be managed?

All the characters in the party are movable but not fully controllable. A character can refuse to complete a task which contradicts their beliefs or their will. Although the hero alone will be capable of conversation, the characters in the party will have a few things to say. They could express their own opinion, give a hint or just nag.

Is the party mandatory for completing the game?

No. A skillful player will manage to complete the game without the party but the gameplay will be lacking some key elements. Other characters carry loot, help with intricate quests and give tongue to their feelings and all that enriches the course of action.

Can you aim at enemies' parts of body?

Yes, you can hurt various parts of body of your enemies. Effectiveness depends on skills and a weapon and also on a duration of aiming. Human-like foes can be hurt in the head, trunk and four limbs. It is also possible to sneak up on characters.

How about drugs, potions and other drinks improving the character's statistics?

Any of these may be available from plants and other natural sources in the world of New Dawn. They are rare and due to their poisonous features highly sought-after.

Dagger - The assassin's weapon of choice. While less powerful than larger weapons, the dagger's small blade is perfect for concealment and swift, precise strikes at vital organs.

Sword - The most versatile weapon. Different cultures have different ideas about what swords should look like, which explains the variety ranging from sickle swords to two handed cleavers.

Axe - A sharp hafted weapon that combines the power of a hammer with the cutting edge of a sword. Works like a charm against armored opponents.

Hammer - One of the first weapons known to man; simple, yet effective. The blunt force behind a hammer blow is known to knock even the sturdiest opponent off his feet.

Spear - Not everyone likes combat up close and personal. The spear is a great weapon to attack from a safe distance, but can be awkward without room to move.

Bow - What ranged combat is all about: shooting at people from as far away as possible.

Crossbow - While it can't match the bow's accuracy, range, or reload speed, the crossbow packs quite a punch and a close range shot can hit hard enough to knock your opponent down.

Throwing - Many weapons can be thrown at enemies, but some are more suited to throwing than the others. What such weapons lack in power, they gain in speed and finesse.

Dodge - The ability to avoid being hit by not being there when the blow arrives. Don't try it in heavy armor! Successfully dodging gives a chance to perform a counter attack.

Block - What better way to avoid a blow than by putting a solid chunk of wood or metal between you and your opponent? Blocking successfully provides an opportunity to counter attack.

Critical Strike - Combat finesse. The art of dispatching an opponent with a well placed strike, using anatomical and/or armor weaknesses.

Sneaking - The art of walking unseen and unnoticed. Most rules and laws don't apply to you, when those who enforce them don't see you.

Disguise - Impersonation, assuming and maintaining identities, and just being someone else. The art of visual deception.

Stealing - Like trading, except the other guy never gets his share. Be warned though! The laws of the Thieves' Guild can be more binding and less forgiving than the laws of a town.

Traps - The theoretical knowledge and practical applications of traps, including setting up & disarming.

Lockpick - Artfully opening locks in a fast and efficient manner, for the times when you find yourself without the right key.

Persuasion - The smooth art of convincing people to act in your interests through reasoning and/or personal magnetism.

Etiquette - Understanding of proper behavior protocols and how to apply them to your benefits. In other words, what to do when you can't be direct.

Streetwise - Your defense against someone else's skills of persuasion. It's the alarm that goes off when someone tries to take advantage of you.

Lore - The knowledge and understanding of the events long gone, ancient languages, forgotten rituals, and mysterious objects. Always a winner in a post-apocalyptic world.

Crafting - A skilled craftsman has the knowledge to create and improve their own equipment. While many good items can be found or bought, nothing can match the quality of a balanced blade made from rare ores.

Trading - The theory and understanding of all commerce matters. More than an art of buying cheap, trading is the way of money. Only a skilled trader can join the Merchant Guild that, as some say, is more ruthless then the Assassins' Order.

Alchemy - The fine art of mixing things together and getting mixed results, ranging from healing potions to greek fire. A must-have skill for mad scientists!

Ovo stvarno deluje impresivno. Samo da ne ispadne Diablo klon na kraju.

Ne mislim da će biti akcioni RPG, sam osetljiv na izjave tipa ''biće elemenata Baldur's Gatea i Planescape: Tormenta'' pa sam bio malo ciničan ;)
