Lucky
Mel Brooks' wacky 1987 "Star Wars" comedy spoof "Spaceballs," is being retooled for the small screen via a three-way project involving the producer, MGM TV and little-known German company BFC reports Variety. The idea it seems is to do an animated TV series that makes fun of the latest wave of sci-fi and fantasy icons, including the "Star Wars" prequels and "The Lord of the Rings." Brooks is busy on the film version of his Broadway hit "The Producers" until June, when he'll concentrate more fully on "Spaceballs." Brooks and the original film's co-writer Thomas Meehan will produce the hour-long pilot and supervise the writing of the 13 half-hour episodes. Brooks will return to voice two of the returning characters, President Skroob and Yogurt. MGM will distribute the series internationally with the exception of Germany.
