The project has started only recently but it has now got the official blessing of Gearbox, since they granted the dev team a "personal non-commercial license" to develop a mod based on the Duke Nukem IP. The stand alone game, will be released for free and it will include a 3 episode singleplayer campaign, which will be a re-imagining of DN3D's campaign, and a multiplayer mode. Instead of waiting to release the whole mod when (if!) it's done, the team promises they'll release new playable builds when they hit certain milestones. For now they plan to release a multiplayer build, "sooner than you think".
