Najviše nominacija za Oskara ima "The Shape of Water“ – čak 13, "Dunkrik“ ima osam. Greta Gervig je peta žena ikada nominovana za Oskara za najbolju režiju, a pevačica Meri Dž. Blajdž je prva osoba koja je u isto vreme nominovana za najbolju pesmu i najbolju sporednu žensku ulogu. Bajkovita romansa između neme devojke i reptilskog stvorenja, bila je favorit večeri sa najviše, ukupno 13 nominacija, od kojih je osvojila četiri, uključujući Oskara za najbolju režiju. Time je Del Toro postao treći meksički reditelj koji je osvojio nagradu u toj kategoriji. Pre njega su bili Alehandro Injaritu i Alfonso Kuaron. Glumac Geri Oldman, neprepoznatljiv iza debelog sloja šminke u ulozi Vinstona Čerčila, osvojio je Oskara za najboljeg glumca u ostvarenju "Najmračniji čas" (Darkest Hour). Kao još jedan od favorite, sa osam nominacija, ovaj film Kristofera Nolana osvojio je tri Oskara. Oskara za najbolju glumicu dobila je Frensis MekDormand, za ulogu u crnoj komediji Martina Mekdonaga "Tri bilborda ispred Ebinga u Misuriju" (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), dok je nagrada za najbolju mušku sporednu ulogu u istom filmu dodeljena Semu Rokvelu. Najbolju žensku sporednu ulogu ostvarila je glumica Alison Džejni u filmu "Ja, Tonja" (I, Tonya). Oskara za najbolji originalni scenario osvojio je Džordan Pil za "BežI" (Get Out) i time postao prvi afroamerički reditelj sa koji je dobio tu nagradu. Sve manje više očekivano ...
